When I was a young child and prompted with the inevitable question of “What do you want to be when you grow up?”, I had a one word response: “A Drawer”. Later in life I discovered ceramics and woodwork, but through both of those mediums I ended up back in a mode of doing two dimensional drawings, only now with a three dimensional surface as a canvas.
In my professional life, I spent many years as a class teacher in a Waldorf School, where illustrating the main lesson material on the chalkboard was a daily exercise. I had no idea when I was 7 years old that my response to adults’ querries about future plans would be so prophetic. Below are some examples of my work on the chalkboards of my classrooms.
